Fortunately, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire has a more definitive ending than Ghostbusters: Afterlife . In that movie two generations of Ghostbusters finally defeated Gozer, but then it just… ended. Several end credits scenes are shown something completely new and now we finally see that payoff.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire once again has an end credits scene that provides a brief tease of the future, but the real hints of what could potentially be next are mostly in the movie itself. We will discuss everything below which, of course, requires spoilers.

So let’s take this in order. At the end of the film, the Ghostbusters end up defeating Garraka by absorbing him into the original. firehouse containment unit, but that comes at the expense of all the other ghosts in the unit escaping. At least we think so. It’s not explained incredibly clearly, but Garraka seems to let out all the ghosts in the unit. Then in the final shot of the movie, We see the sewer ghost flying down the street and there are many ghosts flying around him. The implication is that there is a lot of ghost work for the Ghostbusters to do now. Much more than before. So there is the first seed of what could come next. redo all the work of the last 40 years.

Another seed emerges in the casting of James Acaster, Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt. All three comedians play characters who help the Ghostbusters in certain ways, and co-writer and director Gil Kenan confirmed that each could return and potentially join the team. “I was lucky to do more. And I wouldn’t rule out any of them,” he told io9 . Acaster and Oswalt’s roles seem pretty straightforward. Acaster’s Lars would be the brainy Egon type, while Oswalt’s Dr. Wartzk would be more Deep Thinking, Winston type. But then there’s Nanjiani’s Nadeem Razmaadi, and we think there’s more to him than many might imagine.

In the film, we learn that Nadeem is a master of fire, an ancient protector with a legacy passed down from generation to generation. The power to manipulate fire, a new ability he uses to help the Ghostbusters defeat Claw. But what comes after that? superhuman ability to manipulate fire, Nadeem wouldn’t just be a Ghostbuster. He is a super Ghostbusters. Or, and stay here with us, maybe he’s the next villain.

Think about it. A shy, poor, single man realizes that he has superpowers and now he can do whatever he wants? That’s the origin story for like every villain in comic book history. There is no indication in Frozen Empire that this will happen; For the most part, Nadeem is humble and shocked by his powers, but don’t you imagine him becoming a real problem in the future? Something to consider for sure.

Finally, there is the end credits sequence. In it, a driver’s truck is stolen by an army of Mini-Pufts and it is revealed that the truck they are stealing is a Stay-Puft Marshmallow truck. This is all played as a joke, but let’s think about it. A bit. The Mini-Pufts, up to this point in two films, have primarily been comic relief. They cause a little chaos and some annoyance, but that’s it. What is its ending? By stealing a truck with, we assume, hundreds of thousands of marshmallows in it, they could now have a truly huge and formidable army. Do they act like an ant colony? Or are they more Voltron style? And everything is preparing to bring back the great character from the original film? Either option seems possible. Plus, Nadeem controls fire, right? Marshmallows and fire go together quite well.

All of that, coupled with the now infinite potential of the Winston Paranormal Research Center, which opens a window to all sorts of potential new technologies, makes for an intriguing path forward if Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a success. And if it’s not, it’s good to know that the Ghostbusters are back and on the case.
